Cori’s Pick: Something in the Water by Catherine Steadman
Well, the ‘something’ that I thought was going to be in the water was completely wrong!
This is the debut novel for author Catherine Steadman – who is best known for her role in Downton Abbey as Mabel Lane Fox. Steadman has written a thriller that kept me coming back to figure out what in the world could possibly happen next, and I can totally see this novel being made into a movie…
The story begins (for the most part) with Erin and husband Mark, embarking on a dreamy honeymoon in Bora Bora. While scuba diving they find something in the water that changes their lives forever.
Unsure of what exactly to do or say about their find, Erin and Mark make a series of decisions that will forever change their lives. Some of their decisions seem absurd – but it leaves the reader wondering what they would do, given the same situation and circumstances. The opening chapter flashes forward, ultimately giving you a glimpse of the end of the story and it pulled me in immediately! I just had to keep reading to find out what transpired to produce that ending. This is a highly recommended summer read!
