Sara’s Pick: If I Die Tonight by Alison Gaylin
A young, good-looking football hero trying to stop a carjacking is run down by a thief stealing the vintage Jaguar of an aging rock star. While everyone in town “knows” that Wade Reed, the outsider at school did it, Pearl Maze, the officer working the case isn’t so sure. While Wade is trolled on Facebook, his mother’s job as a real estate agent is jeopardized, his little brother provides some damning information, and another cop is determined to bring Wade to justice. Opening with Wade’s suicide note, the story then backtracks to the accident and tells the story from the perspectives of Wade’s mom, his brother, the driver of the car, and Pearl. A good story with a look at the angst of teens and their relationships with family.
