Cori’s Pick: Still Me by JoJo Moyes
I’ll be honest. I’ve never been a huge fan of gushy love stories, however over the past couple of years, I’ve been more apt to reach for one. I will say, I would consider the ‘romance’ books I tend to reach for to be more quirky fiction than gushy romance…if you know what I mean???
A little backstory here. In 2013 JoJo Moyes published Me Before You (also made into a movie in 2016 which I refuse to watch because the book is always, always better). A friend told me about it and when I finally picked it up, I DEVOURED it. I became enthralled by JoJo Moyes characters – quirky Louisa Clark and the circumstances that led her to handsome Will – and the ending left me crying (sigh) and eagerly anticipating a sequel. The sequel, After You was released in 2015 and again, within a couple of days I savored the book and loved the new character that was introduced. So that brings us to January 2018 and the third book that features the heroine Louisa Clark, Still Me.
Having lost love, and then soon after gained a new, Louisa Clark arrives in New York ready to start a new life and embrace a new adventure. Thrown into the world of a superrich family, she is soon mixing with New York’s high society. This leads Louisa to meet an interesting cast of characters that introduce love, friendship, and secrets to her life. The secrets end up being what catapults Louisa into a completely catastrophic change in her circumstances….but those changes may just be what she needed in order to find who she really is and what she really wants out of life.
Charming and emotional, I’ve enjoyed all three books in this little series and recommend them all! While it’s not absolutely necessary, if you’re wanting to read Still Me, I highly recommend going back to the start and reading Me Before You and After You first. And don’t worry, the ending of Still Me leaves us knowing (and highly anticipating) that JoJoy Moyes will bring us another novel featuring the adventures of Louisa Clark!
