Kathryn’s Pick: Cinder by Marissa Meyer
“Even in the Future the Story Begins with Once Upon a Time.”
This futuristic retelling of the classic Cinderella tale brings a whole new light to the idea of fairy tales. Cinder ditches the traditional story of Cinderella and instead places Cinder, the cyborg mechanic, as its lead protagonist. This story takes place after the 4th World War in a world left crumbling by the plague known as Letumosis. This plague not only infiltrates Cinder’s family, but it also overcomes the King. Thus, Prince Kai, the Kings next of kin, is left to manage his turmoil-filled country. After meeting up in Cinder’s mechanic shop, Kai and Cinder together form a duo worth rooting for. After reading this first installment I am left eager to continue with the series.
