Cori’s Pick: More Than You’ll Ever Know by Katie Gutierrez
I’ve said it before and I will say it again, debut fiction is the best fiction. I am always on the lookout for fresh new authors that are chomping at the bit to, quite literally, tell us their story. My most recent find is More Than You’ll Ever Know by Katie Gutierrez.
There is an affair, there is a marriage, there is a murder. I know what you’re thinking…that we’ve all read this thriller before and it’s so predictable. But Gutierrez flips the script, delivering a female protagonist leading the double-life, with a husband and family in Texas and another husband and family in Mexico City, each completely unaware of the other. Also, this isn’t a straightforward story of retaliation or hatred or even unhappiness in marriage. There is a delicate intimacy in how Gutierrez laces these very complex relationships and lives together, culminating in a surprising ending.
If you’re looking for a twisty, passionate, engrossing examination of relationships and motherhood with hints of tragedy and mystery, don’t pass this one up. I will be sitting on the edge of my seat waiting for what Katie Gutierrez has to offer us next.
