My Oxford Year

Oxford Year

Cori’s Pick: My Oxford Year by Julia Whelan

Did you read the JoJo Moyes Me Before You trilogy?  Did you love it?  If so, I highly recommend you snatch up Julia Whelan’s tasty debut (April, 2018), sit back and prepare to laugh and perhaps shed a tear – no spoilers here, but for me, the laughs outnumbered the tears.

The story centers around Ella Durran.  Ella is from Ohio and is on her way to Oxford on a Rhodes Scholarship….so basically everything has gone just as she’s planned.  She plans on enjoying her Oxford year experience, traveling Europe, and returning to an amazing new political consulting position in Washington DC. Enter the (notoriously) charming professor, Jamie Davenport.  Ella and her new found friends – all of them are hilarious and make me want to travel to England to find them in real life – begin to navigate life, love, adulting, and figuring out what is better – sticking to your life plan, or following your heart?  This was a charming and sharply funny book that I really enjoyed.  I will most definitely keep an eye out for Whelan’s next offering.
