Sara’s Pick: The Dead Ex by Jane Corry

One man disappears and four women are caught in the aftereffects. Vicki, the ex-wife, now works as an aromatherapist, has epilepsy and an unreliable memory. Scarlet and her mother are caught playing “the game”, which turns out to be dealing drugs. Scarlet goes into foster cares and her mother goes to prison. Tanya has reported her husband missing, but what really happened the night he went missing? According to Vicki, he has a habit of going off by himself, but police seem pretty sure she knows more than she’s telling. Her behavior has been borderline stalkerish, calling him frequently and sending him her change of address every time she moves. Plus someone has shared with the police a photo of her arguing with him shortly before he vanishes. The author does an excellent job of weaving all the disparate threads of the lives of these characters together into some revelations with devastating consequences. Jane Corry is also the author of Blood Sisters.
