The Wrath and The Dawn

Kathryn’s Pick: The Wrath and The Dawn by Renee Ahdieh

The Wrath and The Dawn is a beautiful, twisted, and imaginative retelling of A Thousand and One Nights.

Luckily, I was not familiar with the original story so I went into this with an unbiased mind and came out loving it!

This novel is set in a land ruled by a murderous boy-king named Khalid. Each night he takes a new wife and each morning she is found dead. When our young heroine, Shahrzad, loses her best friend to Khalid, she is left with a vengeance to end the caliph’s reign of terror. What Shahrzad was not expecting to find was a lost boy with a troubled life behind the eyes of this evil monster. She is now left fighting the ever-battling emotions between avenging her best friend and falling for this boy with a tormented heart, all whilst trying to ensure she lives to see the next day’s dawn. This story is a tale weaved with magic, betrayal, longing, and romance that left me refreshed and entranced and I highly recommend it to anyone interested in a fantasy-type romance novel filled with a lot of action.
