Dallas’ Pick: Booked By Kwame Alexander
This entire book is written entirely in poems. I thought this was very interesting for a children’s book considering the way you have to slow down to read it to fully understand the stories. The story of Booked is narrated by a young boy dealing with divorce of his parents, girls, school, and sports. Nick, which is the main character is about to turn thirteen and feels as if his entire life has flipped upside down. His seemingly happy parents break the news that they are getting divorced and his mom is moving states away. His best friend plays on a rival soccer team and at school he has to deal with bullies that want to steal his bike and beat him up! Talk about a bad year in middle school! This book was a lot of fun to read and I will admit I did get a little teary eyed and actually did laugh out loud. The sarcastic easy humor was funny to me. For a quick light read it was a very well written different style book and I enjoyed it from the first page to the last.
