Cori’s Pick: The Martian by Andy Weir

To clarify, I am not a sci-fi reader. However, when I first saw previews for this 2015 film, I was intrigued and immediately found the book at our library. The chapters are short and at times very technical – but since I have no idea what nutrients and weather conditions you need to grow potatoes on Mars, I just went with it. While the main character’s situation was overwhelming, the book still manages to sneak in some laughs. And I know – Matt Damon – but I maintain my conviction that the book is always better than the movie.
