Sara’s Pick: Father’s Day by Simon Van Booy
Orphaned when her parents are killed in a car accident, six-year-old Harvey discovers her lone relative is an uncle, a recovering alcoholic and disabled felon. With the aid of Wanda, an unconventional social worker, Jason is convinced to take in Harvey and the novel then moves back and forth in time as she anxiously awaits his arrival in Paris so she can give him her Father’s Day gift, a box with things that symbolize the most important moments in their lives. A really good story with a heartstring tug at the end.
